College plays host to Italian Language School Visitors

Travel & Tourism students from East Riding College (ERC) are looking forward to hosting a week of activities for 36 students from Vittoria Colonna High School in Arezzo, Italy. The visit forms the first part of a foreign exchange programme, with the Italian students arriving on the 1st March for a week’s stay. The group will visit several local attractions including the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, Scarborough Castle, The Royal Armories in Leeds and the Deep in Hull with a return trip to Italy planned for ERC students in May.

The exchange trip has been carefully planned by ERC Travel and Tourism lecturers, Dave Brown and Sarah Hamilton, ensuring the Italian students get a real flavour of some of the wonderful things available in the region.

Sarah said: “The pandemic stopped original plans of a cultural exchange with the school, however with determination resilience and mutual support, the learners and staff of ERC are delighted to welcome our Italian friends to East Yorkshire.

“We have planned a busy week of activities, and are looking forward to visiting a number of attractions in the region. The students will also be guests at Elwell’s, the college’s training restaurant and undertake several taster programmes at our Flemingate campus.”

The response to the planned itinerary has been warmly welcomed by the Italian learners who commented:

“We are extremely excited about our trip to East Riding College. Our groups are working on some projects about the area and the town, so at least they’ll have an idea of where we are visiting, the history and traditions. So excited…not long to go now.”
